For this proposal argument it is focus on solving
the problem of torture and unethical treatment of inmates. First off the writer
does provide answers and information to determine the issue at hand which is
torture could be a problem that could be solved with certain steps. In the
first paragraph a little background information is given, such as how old the
some of the prisoners are and how they are treated, this strengthens the writer
position with the readers and is a plus to the writer’s argument as well. The
writer provides support to this argument
with quotes from articles and authors, a few more wouldn't hurt this paper
and will provide much more need information in the long run for the argument.
As for skeptical readers because there are always
a skeptic, things that would be focused on is how closing Guantanamo would stop
the use of torture in America and by the Americans. If closing Guantanamo, what
would be next? Would the United Sates put laws in to effect prohibiting enhanced
interrogation techniques? Some negative or unintended consequences such as if
closing Guantanamo would really make a difference or will transferring these
inmates to anther facility really change America’s policy on Enhanced interrogation
?
As far as thinking if the proposal of would cost
too much , the writer provided statics such as annual cost and breaks down how
much does each inmate cost. With this sort of info the reader would agree that
the cost is reasonable and worth it. Some counter proposals that one would make, is why not just make laws prohibiting torture?
The essay was very well written; it provided
facts and insight on the proposal. The writer did put forward a suggestion and
supported it with statistics and sources. The only issue I found was that the
proposal was diverted a little and focused more on what closing Guantanamo
would and not on what the outcome of torture and enhanced interrogation in America
if gitmo was closed. Overall this was a great read and really made me think
about the issue many times after I read it. With some minor tweaks the writer
could make this proposal better than what it already is.
